Steve lives in Invercargill, New Zealand. His Essex was being
used as a chicken coop when he found it.

This 28 Essex 4 door sedan is already a long way from being a chicken coop.
The front end is out of a 1971 Holden (Australian car), with rack and pinion steering.
This photo is taken about three years ago.

Steve has done most of the work himself and there is a lot of custom work that is not obvious from the pics.
He says: " The rear fenders have been widened 60 mm to accept bigger tyres, it is not tubbed as I like cruising with some mates and these cars are very narrow in the body anyway."

The Essex sports a parrell 4 bar rear end with coil over shocks.

"The body has model A Ford front fenders fitted (that took a lot of doing), hand made kick panels and 1.5 mm hand built running boards."

The engine is a small block Chevrolet 350 stroked to 383 cubic inches, topped off with a 6-71 GMC blower. A turbo hydro 400 trans and lsd 9" diff are supposed to take care of the torqe.

A recent pic of Steves Essex.
He writes:
"I had to stop working on car as I decided to build house. The house is now almost finished so I will start back on the Essex soon."

Keep up he good work Steve, It looks like you're into a lot of fun when you get this one on the road!
